You could use one that is just a few inches larger than your dog. This type of bed is more for those dogs which like to have something to lean up against when they sleep. You can pad this bed with pillows, cushions and even blankets to give your dog a soft place to sleep. This type of basket will assure your dog a good night’s sleep, snug and soft in its own body warmth.
Another type of dog bed you could use for your dog is one that is significantly bigger than the dog. There are many dogs that lie on their beds, tossing and turning while they dream of rabbits. These dogs need a lot of space, so you could have a basket that has at least a foot of space around your dog. You can still fill these beds with pillows, cushions and blankets.
The third thing to consider for your large dog bed basket is of course a top. Some dogs like beds that have no cover, but other dogs like to be inside something like a small house, even indoors. You can have a high top for plenty of ventilation, or a low-close top for the dogs that like warm and dark beds to sleep in. The top should be a removable one for easy cleaning, but it should not be too easy to remove from the bed, as the dog may knock it off.
