There are transitional periods in this area for a few years to come. The ideal age to introduce solids is about four to six months. It is very critical to not rush this process; baby’s swallowing mechanics are not anywhere near fully functional, so a good rule of thumb is to begin with cereal and stick with it for several weeks. Beginning cereal or any other solid in the first three months of life is useless and at times can be dangerous. Your baby is not ready to begin before the ages of four to six months, and those who say they are and that it will keep them fuller longer are operating on false information. Doctors no longer support this practice either. Certain baby feeding products can help with this process as well.
