Many companies selling derivatives of the acai berry offer a “Free Trial” for shipping and handling fee. Customers provide a credit information upon purchase. The information goes into a revolving data-base and charges the creditor monthly as this is a membership program, not a free sample. It is up to the buyer to halt the recurring charges. While not a textbook definition of scam; this is an inconvenience to the consumer and often takes several months to resolve. Excessive email spam for acai products and emerging MLM’s are also associated with this new wonder food.
