If you will ask people around what they know about inexpensive liposuction tummy tucks, they will probably tell you that it is a weight loss procedure. The term somehow gives the impression that it is a technique one can use to lose weight. While it can really give you a flatter abdomen and smaller waist it is not considered as a weight reduction technique. In fact, experts say that it works best for people who have normal body weight. Usually your doctor will ask you to lose weight first before you will be allowed to undergo the procedure.
Tummy tuck refers to the cosmetic surgery procedure called abdominoplasty. In a nutshell, it is a procedure used to remove excess fat and skin in the lower and middle sections of the abdomen.
There are different types of abdominoplasty. These are standard abdominoplasty, mini or partial tummy tuck and extended abdominoplasty.
In standard abdominoplasty, incisions are made in your abdomen and above the pubic area. The belly button is cut from the surrounding skin. Stretched and torn muscles are pulled together and stitched. Excess skin is also removed or cut. The belly button is then sutured into place. Mini or partial tummy tuck is done in a similar fashion except that coverage is limited. Repositioning of the belly button is also not always needed. The extended abdominoplasty, as the name implies, has a wider coverage. Incision extends from the abdomen to the back.
The recovery period is usually from two to four weeks. During this period you will be advised not to do vigorous activities. You will need to move around once in a while to prevent blood clotting. Depending on the extent of the procedure done and your tolerance to pain, you might be given pain relievers. You will also be asked to wear supportive abdominal garment to minimize bruising. Sometimes, a drain will be placed from under the wound to remove excess fluids.
